FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Do I even need a Nutrition Facts label?
Most packaged foods sold at retail in the US require one. Very small businesses (under certain annual sales/unit thresholds) can claim an FDA exemption — but many retailers, distributors, and farmers-market organizers require a label anyway, and it builds real credibility with customers. If you're unsure whether you qualify for an exemption, ask us.
Is a database-calculated label acceptable to the FDA, or do I need lab testing?
The FDA accepts labels calculated from ingredient nutrient data for most products — that's how the majority of labels on store shelves are made. Laboratory analysis is generally only recommended for products where cooking dramatically changes composition in ways databases can't model (e.g. deep-fried foods). We calculate from USDA FoodData Central and your suppliers' spec sheets.
How fast will I get my label?
Self-serve: instantly — the label generates live as you enter your recipe. Expert service: standard delivery is 3–5 business days from when we receive complete documentation, with expedited 2-day and next-business-day options available on every package.
What if I change my recipe later?
Self-serve customers can revise the recipe and regenerate the label anytime — that's the biggest advantage of doing it online. Expert-service packages include two free revisions so you can fine-tune (that "too much sodium" moment is common — a small recipe tweak often fixes it).
Which label format does my package need?
It depends on your package's available label area and servings per container. Full-size packages use the standard vertical panel; packages under 40 in² may use tabular; very small packages may use linear; and packages containing 200–300% of the reference amount generally need a dual-column panel. Our serving-size wizard determines eligibility automatically, or our experts pick it for you. See

How do you figure out my serving size?
Serving sizes aren't up to the manufacturer — the FDA sets Reference Amounts Customarily Consumed (RACC) for every product category in 21 CFR 101.12. We match your product to its category and compute the legal serving-size declaration (household measure plus metric) per 101.9(b), including the special rules for discrete units and single-serving packages.
Are ingredient statements and allergen declarations included?
Yes — in the self-serve Studio and Single Product plans, and in the Combo and Ultimate expert packages. Ingredients are listed in descending order of predominance by weight with sub-ingredients handled correctly, and "Contains" statements cover the nine major allergens (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, sesame).
Can I make claims like "low sodium" or "high protein" on my package?
Only if your numbers meet the FDA's specific thresholds for that claim. Our claims checker verifies any nutrient content claim against the regulation before you print it — guessing wrong on a claim is one of the most common causes of FDA warning letters.
What files do I receive?
Print-ready PDF, SVG (vector — infinitely scalable for your packaging designer), and PNG at whatever resolution your printer requests. Labels meet the FDA's minimum type sizes and typography rules at print scale.
Is my recipe kept confidential?
Yes. Self-serve recipes live in your account and are never shared. For expert service, our standing
non-disclosure agreement is posted publicly and emailed to you when we begin your project.
What about the 2016 FDA label changes — is your format current?
Everything we produce follows the current (2016 final rule) format — the large calories display, Added Sugars line, vitamin D and potassium, updated Daily Values, and updated serving sizes. We also monitor the eCFR and Federal Register continuously so labels stay current if the rules change again.
Do you offer volume discounts?
Yes. Discounts apply automatically when you order multiple labels, and the self-serve Studio plan includes unlimited products. For product lines of 10+ SKUs,

What if I'm not satisfied?
We stand behind our work. If you're dissatisfied with an expert-service deliverable, we'll make it right.
